The US Southern Command said the operation was carried out on Friday after intelligence confirmed the vessel was on a known drug trafficking route and was actively involved in illegal activities.
Footage released by the military shows a small ship exploding and bursting into flames as it moves. The Guardian based on a statement, it says that “two persons connected to drug trafficking” lost their lives during the attack, while the search for a survivor has begun.
Dozens of similar strikes in recent months
The U.S.military has carried out more than 30 similar strikes since september against ships it says are smuggling drugs off the coast of South America.Citing data from the Trump governance, the Associated press reported that a total of more than a hundred people were killed in these actions.
