US Forces Aid Philippines Disaster Relief Efforts with Vital Airlift Operations

MANILA, Philippines – In a exhibition of strong bilateral ties and a commitment to humanitarian assistance, the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command has deployed Marine Corps and Air Force Ospreys,alongside Air Force MC-130Js,to deliver critical life-saving relief items to communities devastated by recent storms and the southwest monsoon. These vital operations underscore the enduring partnership between the United States and the Philippines in times of crisis.
joint Airlift Missions Deliver Essential Supplies
On July 30 and 31, U.S. Ospreys played a crucial role in Philippine-led airlift operations. These versatile aircraft transported 600 Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) family food packs and other emergency relief items from Clark Air Base to Basco, Batanes, an area particularly hard-hit by the severe weather. The U.S. military has pledged to continue these efforts, with an additional 5,700 DSWD-provided family food packs scheduled for delivery to affected regions in the coming days.
The U.S. Embassy in Manila has affirmed that U.S. aircraft and personnel remain on standby, ready to support the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in delivering aid to where it is moast desperately needed. This collaborative approach ensures that relief reaches those most vulnerable with efficiency and speed.
Collaboration with philippine Agencies and International Partners
The U.S. has been working in close coordination with key Philippine government bodies, including the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the Office of civil Defense, and the DSWD. Furthermore, the U.S. is collaborating with the World Food Program (WFP) to ensure the effective distribution of food and relief supplies across Central and Northern Luzon.
As of July 29, the WFP, bolstered by approximately P13.8 million (or $250,000) in funding support from the U.S. Department of State,has successfully mobilized trucks to deliver over 47,700 DSWD-provided family food packs. These essential supplies have reached Ilocos Norte, La Union, and Pangasinan, providing much-needed emergency relief to more than 200,000 individuals impacted by severe flooding.

U.S. ambassador to the Philippines marykay Carlson emphasized the depth of the alliance, stating, “The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with our filipino allies, especially in responding to disasters.” She added, “We are grateful to the combined relief and rescue teams who have been working tirelessly on the ground to deliver emergency assistance to affected residents.” This sentiment highlights the shared dedication and mutual support that define the U.S.-Philippines relationship, particularly in the face of natural calamities.
