US Open 2024: Swiatek defeats Pavlyuchenkova
Women’s tennis world No. 1 Iga Swiatek advanced to the round of 16 by defeating No. 2 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 25-6, 4-6 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Swiatek’s win kept her profile high, marking her 16th appearance in the last 16 of a Grand Slam tournament, the most by any player since her debut at the 2019 Australian Open.

“I just want to focus on myself,” Swiatek said in an on-court interview. ESPN.
“She’s a great player and very powerful, so you have to be ready for those first few quick shots.”
Swiatek has now won 17 consecutive service games without facing a break point. The last time she was broken was in her first-round match against Kamila Rakhimova when she was serving at 5-4 in the second set.
Swiatek will face No. 16 seed Lyudmila Samsonova in the fourth round on Monday. She has a 3-0 record against Samsonova, and the two last met in the 2023 Beijing Open final.
