Félix Auger-Aliassime Advances at European Open

Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the semifinals of the European Open tennis tournament in Brussels, Belgium, following a hard-fought 6-2, 7-6 (6) victory over American qualifier Eliot Spizzirri, according to CBC Sports. The second-seeded Canadian clinched the second-set tiebreaker with his 11th ace of the match. Auger-Aliassime cruised through the initial set by breaking Spizzirri’s serve twice while facing zero break points.

However, Spizzirri mounted a much tougher challenge in the second set, securing two set points in Game 12 before Auger-Aliassime completed a vital hold with an ace to force a 6-6 tie, as reported by CBC Sports. Although the American claimed a 5-3 lead in the tiebreak, Auger-Aliassime rallied to capture four of the final five points. The 25-year-old Canadian, who entered the ATP 250 tournament ranked 13th in the world, advanced to face Belgian wild card Raphael Collignon in the semifinals.
