US Open Junior Division Women’s Singles Final: Yasou Sonobe vs M. Stoj Savljevic
The US Open (USA/New York, hard, Grand Slam) was held on the 7th with the 7th seed. The women’s singles final of the junior division between Yasao Sonobe and world junior ranking 33rd M. Stoj Savljevic (UK) was scheduled for Court 12. This match is scheduled to start at 1:00 on the 8th (local time 12:00 on the 7th).
This is the first time the two have met. 16-year-old Sonobe, ranked 10th in the junior world rankings, has participated in the junior division of a Grand Slam tournament for the eighth time. Her best result to date was making it to the round of 16, but in this tournament she won five matches and advanced to the final for the first time.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Stojvljevic advanced by defeating third seed Ivanovich Jovic (USA) in the semi-finals.
In the final, Sonobe is aiming to become the second Japanese player in 55 years to win a Grand Slam junior title in the same event, following Kazuko Sawamatsu, who won the junior divisions at the French Open (Paris, France, red clay, Grand Slam) and Wimbledon (London, England, grass, Grand Slam) in 1969.
