Montgomerie: Oakmont US Open Course Still “Brutal”

Colin Montgomerie⁣ believes Oakmont Country Club, this ‍year’s US Open venue, remains as demanding as it was when he‍ suffered a playoff ⁣defeat there ⁢in⁤ 1994.The US Open returns to‍ the Pennsylvania course,⁣ nicknamed “The ‍Beast,” for a record tenth time ‌this week, ​promising a⁤ stern test of championship golf adn a true test of US Open strategy.

Reflecting on ‌his near-miss 31 years ago, Montgomerie said,‌ “it was brutal then.” He surged to ⁣the lead after a⁤ second-round 65 ⁤and finished tied at‌ five-under with Ernie els and Loren Roberts.
