The US Open singles champions will take home $5 million as part of a total prize money pool that reaches $90 million for the first time, according to data from Perfect Tennis. That figure represents a 20 percent increase over the previous record of $75 million set in 2024 at the tournament in New York.

Prize Money Breakdown for US Open Singles and Doubles

According to Perfect Tennis, the singles champions will receive a 38.89 percent increase from what Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka collected when they lifted the trophies engraved by Tiffany and Co. The runners-up in New York will also see a 38.89 percent boost, earning $2,500,000 each.

The percentage increases taper down for earlier rounds in the main draw. First-round losers take home $110,000, which is a 10 percent increase compared to twelve months prior. Qualifying tournament participants also see bumps, with Q1 losers receiving $27,500, marking a 10 percent rise from the previous year.

Doubles competitors also share in the broader financial expansion. Winning doubles pairs collect $1,000,000, reflecting a 33.33 percent increase, while mixed doubles champions earn $1,000,000 following a 400 percent jump in that specific category.

Historical Context of Tennis Grand Slam Purses

The total compensation milestone makes the tournament the first tennis event to reach a $90 million purse. Since 2015, when the total prize money sat at $42,253,400, the overall pool has increased by 113 percent, ensuring that every main draw round receives at least six figures in remuneration, according to Perfect Tennis records.

This substantial financial growth mirrors broader upward trends across major tennis tournaments. According to announcements from Tennis Australia, the Australian Open unveiled a record $111.5 million prize pool, representing a 16 percent overall increase from its $96.5 million pool in 2025.

This 16 per cent increase demonstrates our commitment to supporting tennis careers at every level. From boosting qualifying prize money by 55 per cent since 2023 to enhancing player benefits, we’re ensuring professional tennis is sustainable for all competitors.

Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley

That investment by Tennis Australia forms part of a $135 million package across the Summer of Tennis. Craig Tiley noted that the funding is designed to strengthen the sport’s foundation, secure long-term commercial growth, and build deeper talent pools for fans and competitors alike.

Australian Open prize money hits record high.
