Tennis US Open Day 12: Sinner and Fritz Advance to Men’s Final
The men’s singles semi-finals were held at the New York National Tennis Center on the 6th, with top seed Jannik Sinner (Italy) defeating 25th seed Jack Draper (Great Britain) 7-5, 7-6, 6-2 to advance to his first US Open final.
Sinner had a fall during the second set that injured his left wrist, but he recovered after a medical timeout, while Draper was also feeling unwell and ran out of steam.
In the other match, 12th seed Taylor Fritz (USA) defeated 20th seed Francis Tiafoe (USA) in a full set of 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The men’s final will be held on the final day of the tournament, the 8th, and will feature Sinner facing off against Fritz.
Junior Women’s Singles Semi-Finals
In the junior women’s singles semi-finals, Yaso Sonobe defeated a British player 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the finals. This is the first time in 31 years since Yuka Yoshida, who was the runner-up in 1993, that a Japanese player has advanced to the finals.
Women’s Final Preview
Also on the 7th, the women’s final will be held, with the second seed Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus facing off against the sixth seed Jessica Pegula (USA). Sabalenka will be competing for her first title in the final for the second consecutive year, while Pegula will be aiming for her first Grand Slam title.
