US Project Meridian Prepares Military Bases for Total Infrastructure Failure
- The program aims to ensure American military bases can operate independently for at least 90 days if critical civilian infrastructure fails during a major conflict.
- The Fortress initiative is designed to prepare the United States for a potential large-scale war that could paralyze domestic power grids and disrupt global supply chains.
- The program establishes strict supply chain redundancies, requiring at least two qualified supply routes for all critical military materials.

Fortress and Meridian Project Scope
The Fortress initiative is designed to prepare the United States for a potential large-scale war that could paralyze domestic power grids and disrupt global supply chains. As part of this effort, the Pentagon is collaborating with Elon Musk to study future warfare tactics and secure uninterrupted energy supplies for military installations. We do not want to be dependent on standard civil, municipal infrastructure to drive our national defense,
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell told the network. We simply cannot. That is an unacceptable risk.
The program establishes strict supply chain redundancies, requiring at least two qualified supply routes for all critical military materials. It also mandates strategic reserves of fuel, ammunition, and medical supplies. Part of the initiative involves preparing civilian manufacturing facilities to rapidly convert to defense production if necessary.
Power Grids and Portable Nuclear Reactors
Pentagon planners are focusing heavily on energy security, operating under the assessment that modern combat depends entirely on uninterrupted electricity. Power is combat now,
Parnell stated. Without electricity, you lose communication, water, logistics, assembly lines, and absolutely fundamental military command structures.

To maintain power during extensive blackouts, the Fortress project includes plans to construct portable nuclear reactors for military installations. The initiative also involves large-scale battery storage and the creation of microgrids that can disconnect military sites from the civilian power grid. Officials noted that future conflicts will likely span multiple fronts, increasing the risk that global supply chains will break down when geopolitics fracture.
