US Army Soldier Accused of Attempting to Share Military Secrets with Russia
A US Army soldier has been arrested and charged with attempting to provide sensitive military information to the Russian goverment in exchange for citizenship. according to prosecutors, Gabriel Lee, a soldier with a top-secret security clearance, allegedly attempted to share details regarding the operation and vulnerabilities of a main battle tank used by the US military. The alleged exchange was offered in return for Russian citizenship.
Last month, Lee reportedly shared an SD card containing classified documents and information about the tank, as well as other military operations, with an individual he believed to be a Russian intelligence officer. The documents included technical data Lee was not authorized to disclose, some of which were marked as ”controlled information.”
“especially the members of the service that swore to protect our homeland,” stated Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky of the FBI counterintelligence division. ”The FBI and our partners will do everything in our power to protect Americans and safeguard confidential information.”
Lee has yet to issue a public statement regarding the charges presented in court.
