American Airlines unveiled a commemorative aircraft on April 29, 2026, at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence and the airline’s own centennial. The aircraft is scheduled to operate the airline’s inaugural flight from Miami to Caracas, Venezuela, on April 30, 2026.
The unveiling event was attended by American Airlines CEO Robert Isom, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and America250 Executive Vice President Jen Condon, along with airline leadership and frontline team members.
The special aircraft commemorates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, highlighting the nation’s spirit of connection, resilience, and innovation. The event celebrated two historic milestones: the Semiquincentennial of the United States and 100 years of American Airlines connecting the nation and the world.
Partnership with America250
The commemorative aircraft identifies American Airlines as an official partner of America250. This national nonpartisan organization was charged by Congress with leading the official commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Following its inaugural flight to Venezuela, the aircraft will operate across the global network of American Airlines. In this capacity, the plane will serve as a traveling tribute to the nation’s past, present and future
and to the communities the airline has served for a century.
In addition to the aircraft livery, American Airlines will serve as the Official Airline of America Innovates
. This initiative is a traveling showcase of national ingenuity intended to highlight the progress, creativity, and pioneering spirit that have defined the United States over the last 250 years.
Industry-Wide Commemorations
American Airlines is one of several U.S. Carriers participating in the 250th-anniversary celebrations through special aircraft paint jobs. United Airlines and Alaska Airlines are also expected to unveil commemorative designs.
Southwest Airlines introduced its own commemorative plane, Independence One
, on April 27, 2026, at Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport. The Boeing 737 features a red, white, and deep blue livery with the year 1776
displayed across the front cabin windows and the phrase Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
positioned toward the rear of the aircraft.
