US Welcomes Justice for Hezbollah Commander’s Death
Jake Sullivan, the White House’s national security adviser, stated that justice has been served following the death of a Hezbollah special forces commander in an Israeli airstrike on the Lebanese capital Beirut.
The commander, Aqil, was the head of Hezbollah’s special forces unit Radwan and had been wanted by the United States for his alleged involvement in the 1983 Beirut bombings that killed over 300 people. A $7 million bounty had been placed on his head by the U.S. government.
Aqil was killed alongside approximately a dozen other Hezbollah commanders in a targeted Israeli airstrike. Sullivan emphasized that while there is still a path to a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the United States is not in a position to broker a deal that both sides can agree on.
