USA Cycling is bolstering the pathway for collegiate cyclists, announcing the return of the Collegiate All-Star Program. The initiative will provide top student-athletes with the opportunity to compete at an elite level, specifically at the Redlands Bicycle Classic. This year’s program will see composite men’s and women’s teams formed from varsity and club riders, supported by a dedicated staff including directors, soigneurs, and mechanics.
The program’s revival underscores the importance of collegiate racing in the development of American cyclists. According to Vanessa Drummond, Collegiate Manager at USA Cycling, “Collegiate cycling plays a critical role in athlete development in the United States.” The All-Star Program aims to bridge the gap between collegiate competition and the professional ranks, offering invaluable experience in high-stakes racing.
Eric Bennett, Director of Membership at USA Cycling, emphasized the program’s broader goals. “Bringing this program back is about creating real opportunities,” he stated. “Collegiate athletes are already performing at a high level, and the All-Star Program helps connect collegiate racing to elite competition through meaningful, high visibility events where development happens.”

The Redlands Bicycle Classic, scheduled to take place this year from April 9-13, will serve as the proving ground for these collegiate all-stars. The event, considered the longest, continuous stage race in American bicycle racing since its inception in 1985, has a history of showcasing future stars of the sport.
USA Cycling has outlined a clear pathway for future selections to the Collegiate All-Star Program. The 2026 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships, set for May 7-10, 2026, in Madison, Wisconsin, will determine the athletes competing in the 2027 program. Full qualification criteria will be detailed in the official 2026 Collegiate Road National Championships Technical Guide.
This initiative comes as Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28 prepares for the 2026 season with an 11-rider roster, emphasizing track events. The team, led by Marlies Mejías, continues to be supported by Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge for a fifth year, and remains the only US women’s UCI Continental-level team in North America. While not directly related to the Collegiate All-Star program, this demonstrates the continued growth and development within the American cycling landscape.
