United States Triumphs Over Chile in Davis Cup Team Tennis Tournament

The United States has secured a decisive victory over Chile in the first round of Group C in the Davis Cup team tennis tournament finals. The tournament, held in Zhuhai City, featured a best-of-three format.

Obi Ka Leads the Charge

In the first singles match, the United States’ Obi Ka faced off against Chile’s Garland, ranked 309th in the world. Despite the ranking gap, Obi Ka emerged victorious, winning 6-3. However, he failed to win in straight sets and was broken by Garland once, ultimately winning 6-4 to tie the game.

In the third set, Obi Ka overcame a challenging “over-body ball” from his opponent and resolved Garland’s break opportunity. With Garland’s double fault on serve, Obi Ka won the sub-game 7-3, securing a 2-1 set count and the first game for the United States.

Brandon Nakajima Seals the Deal

In the second singles match, Japanese-American player Brandon Nakajima took on Chilean player Tabiro, ranked 40th against 22nd. Despite being the underdog, Brandon Nakajima won the first set 7-5 in the final game and lost the second set 2-6. He bounced back, winning the third set 7-3 and securing a 2-1 set count, helping the 32-time champion United States to open the game 2-0.

The result of the last doubles match will not affect the United States’ victory in the first round.

The 16 teams in the finals were divided into four groups to play a single round-robin. The top two teams in each group will advance. Group C also includes Germany and Slovakia.
