His resignation followed a viral video showing him making light of a street vendor selling iced tea during a religious gathering.

In his resignation proclamation, Gus Miftah stated, “Today,‌ with humility, sincerity, and deep consideration, I announce my decision to resign from my position as ‌the ‍President’s Special Envoy for⁤ Religious Harmony and Religious Facility Development.”
