UT Medical Center has significantly deepened its collaboration with the University of Tennessee Knoxville College of Nursing through investments in a new state-of-the-art facility and expanded scholarship opportunities for students. This strengthened partnership aims to address critical needs in the healthcare workforce and increase access to nursing education.
Enrollment Growth driven by Collaboration
Over the past five years,the joint efforts of UT Medical Center and the University of Tennessee Knoxville have contributed to a substantial 24.5% increase in enrollment within the College of Nursing, according to an August 25, 2025 announcement.
New Facility Triples learning space
A cornerstone of the expanded partnership is the newly opened UT Medical Nursing Building, which officially launched on August 25, 2025.Replacing the college’s previous building on the same site, the 117,000-square-foot facility represents a threefold increase in learning space. The building is equipped with cutting-edge simulation labs, a 250-seat lecture hall, modernized classrooms, and dedicated wellness areas designed to support student well-being.
Scholarships Reduce financial Barriers
Recognizing the financial challenges many students face, the partnership includes new scholarship funding intended to reduce barriers to entry and attract highly qualified individuals to the nursing profession. This investment underscores a commitment to building a diverse and skilled nursing workforce.
UTMC Nurse Scholars Program Expands
The UTMC Nurse Scholars program, initially launched in 2022 to support students in the 12-month accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) track, has broadened its reach. Starting in Fall 2025, the program will now support over 140 customary BSN students, with future plans to include support for Registered Nurse (RN)-to-BSN pathways as enrollment continues to grow. This expansion demonstrates a long-term commitment to supporting nurses at all stages of their education and career.
