UTA Alumnus Celebrates EP Release with Concert
Ian Gillies, a UTA alumnus and musician, recently held an EP release party for The Practice Room Sessions at Brazos Park. The event ran from 7 to 9 p.m. and was organized by UTA Student Records, the university’s music label. Students gathered to support Gillies, who performed alongside other artists, including Gillian Jolie and Abigail Hill.
Amy Franco, a music business and biology major, explained that UTA Student Records is a class that helps music students collaborate and create music. The course includes lectures that discuss the music industry. Franco mentioned that students work together and share ideas under a student-appointed CEO for project management.
“We’ve signed two artists so far,” Franco said, highlighting the class’s collaborative nature.
Silverio, a student involved in the label’s operations, shared his role overseeing areas like marketing and contracts. He expressed enthusiasm about his experience and future aspirations in artist management.
Gillies praised UTA Student Records for their support in promoting his EP. “They’ve been a massive help in terms of advertising and producing the show,” he said. “I couldn’t have done any of this without them.”
The concert showcased the talent of emerging musicians and the collaborative efforts of UTA students in the music industry.
