Vancouver band Utility Provider will launch their third album, “Challenger,” at the end of November 2024. The album’s production is led by Nick Bergeron at Starport Studios in Langley, B.C., with mixing and mastering by Michael Kraushaar at Little Red Studios in Vancouver.
The band, featuring a new lineup, aims to offer a unique listening experience centered on themes of triumph over adversity. The album encourages fans to connect personally with its music. It features a distinct structure with side A and side B. The first side remains in drop C tuning, while side B shifts to A# tuning, introducing a fresh sound. The transition is marked by an instrumental track named “Northern Storm,” composed by guitarist Chris Thomas.
Singer Tyler Mayfield primarily writes the lyrics, focusing on storytelling rather than personal life experiences. He collaborates closely with Thomas to ensure the lyrics match the music’s intent. The band’s sound reflects influences from blues rock, prog metal, thrash, and grunge, particularly evident in their title track, which combines thrash and power metal elements.
