UTPB Men’s Swimming & Diving Team Shines at Trinity University Tiger Invitational

UT Permian Basin Swimming & Diving Teams Perform Well at Trinity University Invitational

The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) men’s swimming and diving team secured second place at the Trinity University Tiger Invitational, finishing with 947 points. The women’s team placed fifth with 226 points. The men’s team competed against eight teams, while the women’s team faced eleven.

Men’s Competition Highlights

Trinity University, ranked No. 24 in NCAA Division III, won the men’s event with a total score of 1,179 points. Loyola University-New Orleans came in third with 599 points. UTPB’s men’s 200 freestyle relay team, which included Colin Doyle, Leo Eleftherakis, Szymon Gilzynski, and Jake Shelton, took first place with a time of 1:23.42, just a second shy of the school record. In individual events, Jake Shelton and Ivan Torres Lopez had strong showings in the 500 freestyle, finishing second and third respectively.

Women’s Competition Highlights

In women’s events, Trinity, ranked No. 16, dominated the competition with 1,304.5 points. Colorado State University-Pueblo was second with 621 points. Freshman Rowan McWhorter led UTPB in the 200 IM, achieving a personal best in preliminaries and finishing fifth in the finals.

  • Men’s 200 Freestyle Relay: UTPB “A” team – 1st place (1:23.42)
  • Women’s 1-Meter Diving: Kathe Hepfer – 4th; Camilla Aguilar – 5th
  • Men’s 3-Meter Diving: Andrew Pritt – 3rd
  • Men’s 500 Freestyle: Jake Shelton – 2nd; Ivan Torres Lopez – 3rd; Evan Siegrist – 4th

Day 2 Highlights (November 23)

  • Women’s 3-Meter Diving: Kathe Hepfer – 4th; Camilla Aguilar – 5th
  • Men’s 1-Meter Diving: Andrew Pritt – 3rd
  • Men’s 200 Medley Relay: UTPB “A” team – 2nd (1:33.64)
  • Men’s 100 Butterfly: Colin Doyle – 3rd

Day 3 Highlights (November 24)

UTPB excelled in the backstroke. Avin Ward and Zane Garner both tied for first in the 200 backstroke. Doyle performed well in the 100 freestyle, finishing third.

Upcoming Events

UTPB swimming and diving teams will return to action on December 7 at Austin College for a double dual meet.
