UW-eau Claire’s Nathan Donovan named 2024 NCAA Division III Scholar athlete of the Year
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire soccer star Nathan Donovan has been recognized for his exceptional achievements both on and off the field, earning the prestigious 2024 united Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Scholar Athlete of the Year award.
Donovan, a biology major, boasts an impressive 3.88 GPA.His academic excellence has also been recognized by College Sports Communicators, who named him the 2024 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year.
Beyond the classroom, Donovan is a dedicated member of his community. He serves as a pre-med representative in UW-Eau Claire’s Pre-Professional Health Club and has volunteered at Mayo Clinic Health System, even qualifying for it’s MedEx program. His commitment to service extends to his work as a certified nurse assistant, licensed soccer referee, and soccer coach.
Donovan’s athletic prowess is equally remarkable. He is the Blugolds’ first two-time All-American in men’s soccer, earning first-team honors in both 2022 and 2023. This season, he led all NCAA men’s soccer players, across all divisions, with an astounding 26 goals. He also tallied a team-high 15 assists, accumulating a total of 67 points – both single-season records for UW-Eau Claire.
Donovan’s dominance on the field earned him the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Offensive Player of the Year award and the Max Sparger Scholar Athlete recognition this season. He has consistently been recognized for his talent, earning all-region honors throughout his four-year career.
donovan leaves UW-Eau Claire as a legend, holding the school’s all-time records in nearly every statistical category. He ranks third in NCAA Division III history with 229 career points and fourth with 94 goals.

Nathan Donovan: This award is incredibly humbling. To be recognized for my hard work in both academics and athletics is truly a special feeling. It validates the countless hours dedicated to my studies and my passion for soccer. I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my coaches, professors, teammates, and family who have helped me along the way.

Nathan Donovan: Balance is key, and it’s definitely a constant juggle.Time management is crucial, and I’ve learned to prioritize effectively. Utilizing every spare moment for studying, whether it’s between classes or during travel, has been essential. I also believe that having a strong support system, which I’m fortunate to have, makes a huge difference.
