The University of Washington has secured the future of its gymnastics program by signing head coach Jessa Hansen Parker to a five-year contract extension. The agreement ensures that Hansen Parker will remain the leader of the program through the 2031 season.
Hansen Parker took over as the ninth coach in the program’s history in 2024. Since her appointment, the gymnastics team has seen an increase in national competition performance, academic success, and fan engagement.
Program Growth and NCAA Return
The contract extension follows a period of revitalization for the gymnastics program. Director of Athletics Pat Chun highlighted the progress made during Hansen Parker’s tenure, specifically noting the team’s return to the NCAA Tournament over the last two seasons.
Coach Hansen Parker has done exceptional work leading our gymnastics program. Over the past two seasons, we have watched her not only build a foundation but also lead us back to the NCAA Tournament. We are excited for the future of UW Gymnastics under her leadership.

Professional Background and Proven Success
Hansen Parker arrived in Seattle as a veteran coach with more than a decade of experience in the sport. Her professional history includes coaching roles at the University of California, Berkeley and UC Davis, where she was credited with improving national rankings and postseason outcomes.

Before joining the University of Washington, Hansen Parker spent four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Iowa. During her time with the Hawkeyes, she was a key contributor to the program’s historic 2021 season.
That 2021 campaign resulted in the University of Iowa’s first Big Ten Championship. The team achieved a perfect 8-0 record in conference play and earned a No. 17 national ranking, establishing a standard of excellence that Hansen Parker has sought to replicate at Washington.

on Montlake, providing long-term stability for the athletes as they continue to pursue both competitive and academic excellence.
