VALLERAUGUE, France – The town of Val d’Aigoual is hosting a month-long celebration of ecotourism and biodiversity throughout May. The festival features exhibitions, guided hikes, film screenings, and other activities designed to highlight the natural beauty of the Hérault valley. Events will take place until May 29.

“Around the Royal Eagle” Photography Exhibition
May 2: An exhibition of photographs by Vincent Decorde, titled “Around the Royal Eagle,” opens at 6 p.m. at the Atelier Associative Café (5 rue du Béal, Valleraugue). the exhibition will be on display until june 7. Admission is free.
May 3: A slideshow and conference led by Vincent decorde will be held at 6 p.m. at the Foyer Louis barre in Valleraugue.The event is presented by the Association Chant de l’Ubac.
“Hello le Monde” Animated Film Screening
may 9: A screening of “Hello Le Monde,” an animated film by Éric Serre and Anne-Lise Koehler, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Baroness du Merlet room in Notre-Dame de la Rouvière. The film uses delicate puppets to tell the story of the fauna and flora of the region, promoting nature preservation and the balance of ecosystems.Admission is free.
Hike to the sources of Hérault
May 11: A guided hike to the sources of the Hérault River will take place from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The accessible route will explore the source of the Hérault and continue to the crossroads of the Dauphine and Hérault streams, returning via a forest path. Discussions will focus on water issues and the reforestation of Aigoual, including its climatic, economic, human, social, geological, and biological impacts. The hike departs from Prat-Peyrot. Registration is free and can be completed by calling 06 04 50 70 70. the hike is led by Martine Pialot, a mountain guide.
School by the Water
May 15: A day focused on the river and aquatic ecosystem for children from the Valleraugue school. Organized by the AAPPMA Haute Vallée de l’Hérault, an association dedicated to fishing and the protection of the aquatic habitat.
Tales and Legends Around the Chemin de Saint Guilhem
May 16: A conference by Jean-Marie Miss, president of the Association of friends of the Chemin de Saint-Guilhem, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Louis-Barre home in Valleraugue. Miss will discuss tales and legends associated with the Chemin de Saint Guilhem. Admission is free.
Water Forum in Valleraugue
May 17: A Water Forum will be held at the Foyer Louis Barre in Valleraugue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. A round table discussion, “Together, how to manage our water resources durably?” will be held. At 4 p.m., a guided tour of the Hérault River with Jacques Chazel, a Fishing and Environmental Education Guide, will focus on biodiversity, insects, and riparian zones. At 6 p.m., a screening of the documentary film Dourbie clear waters disorders will be followed by a discussion with director Lily Espla. The film, commissioned by the three fishing associations of the Dourbie river, traces the river’s course from its source to its mouth in Millau and examines the environmental challenges it faces.
Printemps Festival in Valleraugue
May 18: The Printemps festival in Valleraugue will offer activities for all ages from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. Activities include a producer and artisan market (Placette), nature stands and Cévennes traditional skittles (Square des Fileuses), carriage rides (departing from in front of the Place du Général-Perrier church from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.), wooden games for children, and workshops on modeling, filming, and making Asian hornet traps, insect hotels, and nest boxes.
Additional events include:
- 8 a.m.: Speak the river – A sensitive listening experience with cellist Christelle Delhaye at the tourist office. Participants should allow 15 minutes for climbing a path and wear appropriate footwear.
- 10 a.m.: Naturalistic outing In the footsteps of the otter – Learn about the European otter and how to detect its presence along the Hérault River. Suitable for ages 6 and up; walking shoes or boots are recommended.
- 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.: Guided tour of the village, departing from the tourist office.
- 2 p.m.: The game of the hive – An activity for children to learn about hives and bee life at the stadium.Parental supervision is required.
- 4 p.m.: Discovery of birds, butterflies, and dragonflies with Gérard Torreilles du Cogard.
- 6 p.m.: Musical aperitif with the group “at the corner of your street” at the Atelier Associative Café, Square des Fileuses.
Small on-site catering will be available throughout the day, with special restaurant menus at noon.
