Butcher Shop Gets a Fresh Cut
On March 8, Anthony gomes took over the butcher shop at Place JB Chaumeil from Tom Saladin. Gomes,a trained butcher,has renamed the establishment “Butcher’s Shop of Your Countryside.”
Gomes trained at CFA La Palme in Agen and honed his skills at Peret de Lectoure butcher shop and in fleurance. He aims to become a fixture in Valence d’Agen’s commercial community.
The butcher shop emphasizes locally sourced meats, including calf from Gers, Blonde d’Aquitaine from Saint-Gaudens, and lamb from Aveyron. House-made cold cuts, poultry, and prepared dishes are also available. Gomes offers catering services for events like weddings and baptisms, and also brazier rentals.
The butcher shop is open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on sunday. It is closed on Mondays.
Waves & Flavors: New Fishmonger in Town
Just a few meters away, another long-standing business has a new owner. Romuald Clouet has taken over Massa fish, a fixture on Sylvain Dumon square for more than 25 years. Clouet, originally from Brittany, brings 26 years of experience to the business.
Clouet began his career at age 14 in Brittany and later worked in responsible fishmongers in the Landes region. He seized the opportunity to establish himself in Valence d’Agen following Mr. Massa’s retirement. The purchase was finalized March 31, and the shop reopened as “Waves & Flavors” on April 8.
While renovations are ongoing, Clouet reports encouraging customer turnout. He plans to continue existing delivery routes and explore new ways to serve customers in areas without easy access to fresh fish.
The fishmonger is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
