Tottenham Defender Van de Ven Calls Postecoglou Sacking “Strange”
Updated June 11,2025
Tottenham hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has voiced his surprise at the club’s decision to sack manager Ange postecoglou, despite the Australian coach ending a 17-year trophy drought. Postecoglou secured the Europa League title last month, but the club’s board was reportedly unhappy with Spurs finishing 17th in the Premier League.
Van de Ven told Voetbal Zone that the decision was “strange” considering Postecoglou’s success. He emphasized that the players had little input in the matter, stating, “That was ultimately a choice from the club.”
The Tottenham defender also acknowledged rumors linking Brentford head coach Thomas Frank to the managerial vacancy. ”Of course, we see some rumours about the Brentford head coach [Thomas Frank], who it will probably be,” Van de Ven said.
Van de Ven joins other Tottenham players, including Son Heung-Min,Yves Bissouma,Pedro Porro,Guglielmo Vicario, and Dominic Solanke,in expressing gratitude to Postecoglou. The players appreciated Postecoglou’s winning mentality and the success he brought to the club, despite the disappointing Premier League finish.
“That was ultimately a choice from the club. We, as players, have little to say about that. Of course, he is the first coach in a long time who has won a trophy and had success at Spurs. so if you look at it that way, it is of course a strange choice.”
