A traffic accident occurred on Siu Sai Wan Road yesterday evening, where an elderly woman pushing a trolley full of cartons and other items was hit by a van and fell onto the pavement. The police said they attach great importance to the case and will investigate in the direction of “dangerous driving”.
Accident Details
Police received a complaint at 6.11pm yesterday that a 37-year-old man driving a light truck was driving eastbound along Siu Sai Wan Road in Chai Wan near Fuk Hong Street and was suspected of hitting a 72-year-old woman who was walking by with a trolley. When police were called to the scene, the woman suffered injuries to her limbs and was taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment in a conscious state.
Consequences of Dangerous Driving
The police stressed that dangerous driving behavior seriously endangers the safety of other road users. Once convicted, the maximum penalty is 3 years in prison and a fine of NT$25,000. If you are convicted for the first time, your license will be suspended for at least 6 months. If you are convicted again, your license will be suspended for at least 2 years. In addition, you will be required to take a mandatory driving improvement course and receive 10 points for a driving violation.
