The Vancouver Whitecaps have announced the end of Vanni Sartini’s tenure as head coach. This decision comes after the team lost to Los Angeles FC in the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Sartini led the Whitecaps since August 2021. He had notable success, securing more playoff wins and Canadian Championship trophies than any other coach in team history. However, CEO Axel Schuster indicated that the team’s recent performance and failure to progress further this season contributed to the decision to part ways with Sartini.

Schuster highlighted the need to regroup and ensure the team possesses the right energy and motivation for the upcoming season. He stressed the importance of moving forward rather than dwelling on past achievements.

Sartini’s record includes three playoff qualifications in four seasons and three Canadian Championships. Under his leadership, the team had a regular season record of 44 wins, 40 losses, and 32 draws.

The Whitecaps finished eighth in the MLS Western Conference this season, concluding a seven-game winless run that impacted their playoff seed. They improved their position by defeating the Portland Timbers in the wild card round but were eliminated by LAFC.

The team will begin its search for a new head coach immediately, allowing the current coaching staff to remain in place for the time being. Schuster mentioned there is no specific candidate in mind as the replacement process starts.
