Dr. Marie Martin, a standout in global health initiatives, has stepped into dual leadership roles at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Effective December 1, 2024, she assumed the positions of associate vice president for global initiatives and assistant dean for global health education at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
This appointment comes as a natural progression for Martin, who has been instrumental in the growth of global health programs at VUMC and VUSM. Her resume already boasts an impressive portfolio, including her role as associate director for education and training at the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health, a position she took up in 2019 after serving eight years as its assistant director.
Martin’s impact extends beyond VUMC. She co-directs the global health track of the Master of Public Health degree program at Vanderbilt, chairs the VUSM/VUMC Global Education Committee, and serves as co-chair of the CUGH Subcommittee on Master’s and Undergraduate Degrees in Global Health.

Birmingham-Based Firm Bolsters Nashville Office with Charles Nugent
Burr & Forman LLP, a Birmingham-based law firm, has strengthened its Nashville presence with the addition of Charles Nugent as an associate. Nugent joins the firm’s creditors’ rights and bankruptcy practice group.
A graduate of Belmont University College of Law and Millsaps College, Nugent brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as a legal extern at the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and as a judicial extern for Judge Jeffrey Usman at the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
Colliers Nashville Welcomes Ben Maude to Industrial Brokerage Team
Colliers Nashville has announced the hiring of Ben Maude to its industrial brokerage team. With a robust background in logistics and military service, Maude is expected to significantly contribute to the firm’s growth.
Before joining Colliers, Maude spent five years in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. He also worked as a program manager on Amazon’s mobile fueling team. Maude holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering management from the United States Military Academy and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School.
