VanEck Debuts Alternative Asset Manager ETF (GPZ) in the US
Updated June 27, 2025
VanEck has launched the VanEck Alternative Asset Manager ETF (GPZ), the first exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the U.S. providing direct access to publicly traded alternative investment management firms. This new exchange-traded product aims to capitalize on the growing interest in private market investments.
The fund tracks an index composed of asset management companies that derive at least 75% of their income from private market sectors. These sectors include private equity, venture capital, private credit, infrastructure, and real estate. Key initial holdings feature industry giants such as Blackstone, Brookfield Asset Management, KKR & Co. and Apollo Global Management.
Brandon Rakszawski, VP of Product Management at VanEck, noted the expanded access to leading alternative asset managers. He added that until now, no ETF offered broad exposure to these firms. Rakszawski said GPZ provides investors a way to tap into this chance at a pivotal moment for private markets.
The ETF follows the MarketVector Alternative Asset managers Index. This index uses a modified cap-weighted approach to ensure diversification. To be eligible, firms must meet specific market capitalization and trading volume requirements. Individual company weightings are capped at 12%.
What’s next
The introduction of GPZ could pave the way for further innovation in ETFs focused on alternative asset management, potentially attracting a wider range of investors to private market opportunities.
