Guard Fred VanVleet and the Houston Rockets have agreed to a two-year, $50 million contract, securing the veteran’s presence in Houston. The deal, which includes a player option for the 2026-27 season, ensures VanVleet, a key component in the Rockets’ recent success, remains with the team.

The new contract provides the Rockets with financial versatility and allows VanVleet to perhaps explore free agency in 2026, when more teams are projected to have notable salary cap space. Both VanVleet and the Rockets envision a long-term partnership.
VanVleet, 31, will join a Rockets team that recently added Kevin Durant in a major trade. The Rockets have also extended contracts with center Steven Adams for three years and $39 million,and coach Ime Udoka with a long-term extension,signaling a commitment to building a competitive roster.
A former All-Star and 2019 NBA champion with Toronto, vanvleet has been instrumental in Houston’s resurgence.
