VCU Medical Centre Names Jim Willis as President, Signaling Stability and Continued Growth
Richmond, Virginia’s VCU Medical Center has officially appointed Jim Willis as its president, solidifying a leadership transition that began earlier this year. Teh announcement, made on September 19th, marks the culmination of a period of interim leadership and recognizes Willis’s significant contributions to the health system.
From Interim Leader to Permanent President
Willis initially stepped into the role of interim president in February 2024. Prior to that, he served as the medical center’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) starting in January 2024, having previously held the interim COO position from March 2023 to January 2024.This progression demonstrates a clear vote of confidence from VCU Health‘s leadership.
A 35-Year Veteran bringing Operational Expertise
Jim Willis brings an remarkable 35 years of experience in hospital leadership to the presidency. He first joined VCU Health in June 2022 as Vice President of Professional Services,quickly establishing himself as a key figure in the institution. His deep understanding of hospital operations and strategic planning will be crucial as VCU Medical Center navigates the evolving healthcare landscape.

During his time as interim president and COO, Willis spearheaded several key initiatives designed to improve both the patient and employee experience.
