Machado Denounces Maduro Regime’s “State Terror” Amid Human Rights Abuses
María Corina Machado, a prominent Venezuelan politician, has spoken out against the regime of Nicolás Maduro, describing its actions as “State Terror” in a recent statement on social media.
Machado’s comments come in response to a report documenting serious human rights violations in Venezuela, which was released by the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) in collaboration with several Venezuelan non-governmental organizations. The report, titled “Venezuela’s Human Rights in Motion,” highlights patterns of human rights abuses before, during, and after the July 28 elections.
The report sheds light on evidence of arbitrary detention, torture, and other abuses, which reflect systematic repression by the authorities. Machado emphasized the importance of disseminating the information contained in the document, stating that “this report on the practices of Maduro and his regime is devastating.”
Machado also acknowledged the work of the NGOs that contributed to the preparation of the report, despite the challenging conditions under which they operate in Venezuela. “My recognition to all of the NGOs in Venezuela that received and recorded the heartbreaking testimonies and complaints about what has been happening in our country since July 28. There will be justice,” she said.
