Young Councilman’s Candid Story Sparks Mental Health Push in Vercelli

Vercelli,Italy – A young city councilman’s courageous testimony about his own battle with mental health is igniting a crucial conversation about the urgent need for increased support for young people in Vercelli.

At just 22 years old, Marco Mancuso, a member of the Democratic Party, recently presented a powerful amendment to the city council. His proposal aims to establish a dedicated mental health support center specifically for university students.

Mancuso’s impassioned plea stemmed from a deeply personal place. During the council meeting,he bravely shared his experience with suicidal thoughts at the age of 15. “I was on the ledge of my bedroom window,” he revealed, “and if it hadn’t been for my mother, I wouldn’t be here today.”

His story highlights a growing crisis. According to UNICEF, an estimated 700,000 young people in Italy suffer from mental health issues, including depression. Mancuso believes societal pressures contribute to this problem. “Our society is obsessed with perfection and cynicism,” he stated.

Mancuso’s experience with bullying during his time at a classical high school further fueled his desire to advocate for change. After transferring schools, he became a student representative and dedicated himself to helping other students who were victims of bullying.

His amendment, currently under consideration, aims to provide a safe and accessible space for university students to seek help and support for their mental well-being.

Mancuso’s courage in sharing his story has resonated deeply with many, sparking a vital dialogue about the importance of mental health awareness and support for young people.
