Vermont Seeks Compliance Analyst to Tackle Lead in Drinking Water
Montpelier, VT – The State of Vermont is seeking a dedicated Environmental Compliance Analyst IV to join its Drinking Water & Groundwater Protection Division. This limited-service position, open to both state employees and external applicants, will play a crucial role in safeguarding public health by ensuring compliance with evolving federal and state regulations concerning lead and copper in drinking water systems.
The role comes at a pivotal moment. Recent revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule (LCRR), partially implemented on , and forthcoming improvements under the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI), with a full compliance date of , necessitate proactive support for public water systems across the state. The analyst will be instrumental in guiding these systems through the complex process of identifying and replacing lead service lines, conducting rigorous water quality testing, and fulfilling public notification requirements.
The position is part of a collaborative team of seven within the Compliance Section, and will focus heavily on the Lead and Copper Rule. Responsibilities include tracking and evaluating compliance, providing direct outreach and technical assistance to water systems, and developing accessible resources – such as fact sheets and public-facing materials – to aid in understanding and implementing the new regulations.

Qualifications and Compensation
The State of Vermont is seeking candidates with a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field, including biological/life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, social sciences, data science, or environmental/natural resources. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in one of these fields coupled with at least one year of experience in a natural resources field will be considered. Four years of experience in engineering, environmental science, social science, data science, or natural resources is also an acceptable qualification.
