Updated May 26, 2025
Carlos Verona of Lidl-Trek seized a solo victory in Sunday’s challenging Stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia, a stage that saw pre-race favorite Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe) lose crucial time. Verona’s triumph marks Lidl-Trek’s sixth stage win in this year’s Giro.
Verona, part of the day’s main breakaway, launched his decisive attack on the final climb, soloing the last 31 miles of the 136-mile stage from Fiume Veneto to Asiago. Florian Stork and Christian Scaroni completed the stage podium, holding off the chasing group of general classification contenders.
Isaac del Toro (UAE Emirates-XRG) finished with an elite group, securing his hold on the pink jersey despite missing out on bonus seconds. However, the major headline was Roglič’s struggles, as he conceded 1 minute, 30 seconds to his rivals, plummeting from fifth to 10th now 3:53 behind the leader.

Following a crash-marred Saturday that forced Giulio Ciccone’s withdrawal, Stage 15 unfolded as a battle between breakaway hopefuls and GC contenders.Ineos Grenadiers ignited the race on the Monte Grappa climb, with Del Toro and Richard Carapaz responding to Egan Bernal’s attacks. Verona then launched his stage-winning move on the Dori climb.
Verona dedicated his victory to his team and the absent Ciccone. “I didn’t hope to win a stage because I came to this Giro to help support Ciccone, and I was fine with that,” Verona said. “Everything changed yesterday and today I said,OK,I will do it for the team… I was racing today for this team.”

“We were with the team setting a pace without really wanting to go too hard at Monte Grappa, and Ineos came like a train,” Del Toro said. ”Then I saw Bernal and Carapaz, and I just tried to roll with them and stay in the front and not take a lot of risk…Now I need to race against my idols, it’s such a big dream for me.”
