Verstappen Open to Vettel’s Potential Management Role at Red Bull
Updated June 26, 2025
Max Verstappen has voiced his support for Sebastian Vettel potentially taking on a management role at Red Bull. The move would see the four-time Formula 1 champion possibly succeeding Helmut Marko, the team’s consultant.
Marko, 82, a former racer who suffered an eye injury during the 1972 French Grand Prix, is currently contracted with red Bull through next year. Vettel, 37, secured four consecutive titles with Red Bull from 2010 to 2013 before retiring in 2022 after stints with Ferrari and Aston Martin.
Verstappen, speaking at the Austrian Grand Prix, acknowledged Vettel’s deep ties to the team. He noted that Vettel maintained a strong relationship with Marko even after leaving Red Bull. The potential for Vettel to assume a leadership position addresses questions of succession within the organization.

Marko has been a key figure at Red Bull, serving as a confidant to the late owner Dietrich Mateschitz and overseeing the team’s young driver program. During Vettel’s championship years, Marko formed a leading trio with team principal Christian Horner and technical expert Adrian Newey, now at Aston Martin.
Vettel recently told Austria’s ORF television that he is in contact with red Bull, though perhaps not intensively. Marko confirmed to austria’s Kleine zeitung that Vettel is closely monitoring the team’s activities, with succession planning being a key consideration.
“In a sense there’s always a spot available, right? I’m sure that there’s always a space for Seb in any kind of form,” verstappen saeid.
