Verstappen addresses claims of Diminished Motivation
Formula One champion Max Verstappen refuted suggestions that his motivation waned during Red Bull Racing’s challenging start to the 2024 season. The comments came after a recent upturn in performance for both Verstappen and the team, leading to speculation about a shift in his approach.
Verstappen emphasized his consistent dedication, stating he has always competed fiercely for every point. He specifically addressed concerns raised about his engagement, particularly in relation to his participation in online racing simulations.
Online Racing and Professional approach
Verstappen clarified that his participation in online racing, including during F1 weekends, has been a long-standing practice and did not represent a change in his professional approach. He stated the Nürburgring race was arranged well in advance.
“There’s nothing really that has changed in terms of how professional I approach my race weekends,” Verstappen said, according to Reuters.
Performance Improvements: A combination of Factors
Verstappen attributed the recent improvement in the car’s performance to a “combination of a lot of things,” including upgrades that allowed for a different configuration. He explained the sensitivity of Formula One cars and how even small adjustments can have a meaningful impact.
“These cars are super-sensitive, right? So you’re sliding a bit less, the tyres also work a bit better and that gives you also better race pace,” he explained.
He further elaborated that the combined effect of these factors “unlocked quite a bit more pace within the car,” boosting his confidence and enabling more aggressive car setup adjustments.
