Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has taken‍ responsibility for his collision with Mercedes driver George Russell at the⁤ spanish Grand Prix. The incident resulted ⁣in a penalty ‌for Verstappen during the race.

Verstappen, a four-time champion, found himself in a difficult position following a ‍late safety car. Red Bull’s decision to switch to hard tires while competitors opted for softer compounds proved problematic. Upon the ‍restart, Verstappen‍ struggled⁤ with grip, allowing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to⁢ overtake ⁣him. Subsequently, Russell made a move, resulting in contact between the two‍ drivers.

Initially, Verstappen appeared unwilling to discuss the incident. However, he later addressed the situation on Instagram,⁤ stating that his move “was not right and shouldn’t have ‌happened.” He attributed his frustration to ‍the team’s tire strategy.

The incident earned Verstappen three penalty points, bringing him close to a race ban. He also received a 10-second time penalty, ultimately finishing ⁢tenth.

We had ⁣an‍ exciting strategy and good race in Barcelona, ⁤till⁤ the safety car came out. ‌Our tire choice to the end‍ and some moves after the safety car restart fuelled my⁤ frustration,⁤ leading to a move that ⁢was not right and shouldn’t have happened.

I always give everything out ⁤there for the team and⁢ emotions can run high. you win some together, ‍you lose some together. See you in Montreal.

What’s‌ next

Verstappen looks ahead to ‌the ‍next race in Montreal, aiming to put the Spanish Grand Prix incident behind him ⁢and refocus on competing for a victory.
