Personally, as a fan of director Alfred Hitchcock, I watch his movies from time to time. Although I have not seen all of Hitchcock’s films, I can confidently say that “Vertigo” is by far his greatest masterpiece, regardless of any other Hitchcock films. It starts off a bit mysterious and scary, but when you reach the finale, you’ll be so shocked that you’ll forget what to say. This film stars the best cast of the era, James Stewart and Kim Novak, but I would like to give more praise to Kim Novak’s performance. The two roles are played to perfection, and even the changes in facial expressions and body posture are acted with great detail. That sullen, expressionless, cold image doesn’t fit this movie very well. This is truly excellent casting. James Stewart appeared in various films as Hitchcock’s persona, but he gives his best performance in this film. Of course, “Rear Window” was a good performance, but I think he showed a deeper acting in this movie. This movie is divided into exactly two parts, and although the atmosphere completely changes, if you look closely, the two parts are actually exquisitely connected to each other. It’s so meticulously planned that you can’t miss a single scene, and if you watch a mystery movie to a certain extent, the plot can be predicted, and even the finale can be roughly predicted, but this movie completely catches you off guard. You can never predict the finale. If you must see one classic movie, and if you want to understand Hitchcock’s fame through one movie, the answer is definitely “Vertigo.”
