Werder Bremen have extended their loan agreement for forward Jovan Milosevic from VfB Stuttgart for the 2026-27 Bundesliga season, according to reports from German media outlets. The Serbian striker, who joined Bremen on loan in January 2026, has impressed during his initial spell despite suffering an injury that limited his appearances.
Milosevic scored three goals in eight league games for Werder Bremen before sustaining an injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. His performances during that period, particularly his impact in Bremen’s attacking play, prompted the club to seek an extension of the loan deal beyond its original expiry date.
The extension comes after Milosevic signed a new two-year contract with VfB Stuttgart, keeping him at the club until 2029. Stuttgart’s decision to extend his deal was based on his development during previous loan spells, most notably at Partizan Belgrade where he scored 19 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions during the 2024-25 season.
Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, praised Milosevic’s qualities, describing him as “a young, talented striker who developed very well during his last loan spell at Partizan Belgrade” and stating that he “fits the profile we are looking for perfectly.” Niemeyer added that the club is “delighted to have signed Jovan” and values his potential to contribute to the team’s goals in the Bundesliga.
Milosevic himself expressed enthusiasm about the move to Bremen, saying he is “really looking forward to the challenge at this traditional club” and wants to “develop further at Werder and in the Bundesliga and help the team achieve its goals.” He made his senior debut for Serbia in November 2025.
The striker joined VfB Stuttgart in July 2023 from Serbian club FK Vojvodina Novi Sad. After limited Bundesliga appearances with Stuttgart, he spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Swiss side St Gallen, where he scored five goals in 22 matches. He returned to Stuttgart briefly in January 2025 before being sent out on loan again to Partizan Belgrade for the 2024-25 season.
Werder Bremen are currently focused on avoiding relegation from the Bundesliga, with the club’s management confirming that planning for the upcoming season is already underway behind the scenes. Securing Milosevic’s services for another season is seen as a key part of their strategy to strengthen the attacking options, especially given the long-term absence of Victor Boniface, who underwent knee surgery in January 2026 and is expected to be sidelined for several months.
VfB Stuttgart are open to another loan spell for Milosevic, citing strong competition within their own attacking squad and the contractual certainty provided by his extended deal until 2029. However, any formal agreement for an extended loan is contingent on Werder Bremen maintaining their Bundesliga status for the 2026-27 season.
