Vice President Sara Duterte Clarifies Controversial Kill Statement Amid National Security Concerns

November 25, 2024 Catherine Williams News

Sara Duterte Clarifies Remarks on President Marcos’ Safety

Vice President Sara Duterte stated that her comments about ordering an assassination of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. were taken out of context. She expressed concern regarding how her statement was perceived after the National Security Council (NSC) labeled threats to Marcos as serious.

Duterte noted that she has not been invited to NSC meetings and questioned why. She requested documentation proving that her remarks were discussed as a security issue. She also asked for details on NSC meetings since June 30, 2022, to review their actions related to national security.

During a recent media conference, Duterte mentioned that if she were killed, she had directed someone to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez. She later clarified that her statement was not a threat but highlighted her security concerns.

The Department of Justice is now investigating Duterte’s comments. They stated that if evidence supports it, this investigation could lead to prosecution. The situation continues to unfold, with clarity and transparency being a focus for Duterte and the NSC.
