Oakmont, Pa. — Victor Perez, the French golfer, experienced a memorable Friday at the U.S. Open, carding a hole-in-one during the second round at Oakmont Country Club. The ace is a career highlight and boosted his standing in the tournament.
Perez’s ace on the par-3 sixth hole marked only the second hole-in-one recorded at a U.S. Open held at Oakmont. He used a 7-iron to sink the 192-yard shot. The ball bounced a few times before dropping into the cup, sparking a celebration.

An excited Perez raised his arms and exchanged a chest bump with his caddie. he also celebrated with playing partners Adam schenk and Jacob Bridgeman as the gallery cheered.
Perez acknowledged luck played a role in the feat. ”Obviously, a hole-in-one takes a little bit of luck,” Perez said. “Honestly, I was trying to hit something maybe 15-20 feet past the hole. Maybe it spun a little more and bounced in. I was a little blessed, which I’ll definitely take.”
Perez said it was the ninth ace of his career. He recounted making two at his home course in the bahamas while playing alone, which went unverified.
“They didn’t believe me at home because I was playing by myself,” Perez said. “Now, they’ll know.”
The last hole-in-one at a U.S.Open at Oakmont was in 1983, when Scott Simpson aced the 16th hole during the first round.
The ace aided Perez in recovering from a rocky start to his second round. He finished the round tied for sixth place at 1-over.
