On September 9, 2024, Vietnam exported an additional 340,000 doses of its locally produced anti-African Swine Fever (ASF) vaccine, known as NAVET-ASFV3, to the Philippines. This shipment builds upon previous collaborations aimed at controlling the spread of ASF,a highly contagious and devastating disease affecting swine populations.

Addressing the PPA Threat
African Swine Fever, also referred to as Porcine Pneumonia Affecting (PPA) in some regions, poses a severe threat to pig farming and food security. the virus causes high mortality rates in pigs and can lead to substantial economic losses for farmers and related industries. The NAVET-ASFV3 vaccine, developed by Vietnam’s Nha Trang Veterinary Research Institute, has demonstrated promising results in preventing and controlling ASF outbreaks within Vietnam.
The Philippines has been battling ASF since its initial detection in 2019, resulting in the culling of millions of pigs and notable disruptions to the local pork supply.
