The Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Federation delegation, consisting of 83 members, has departed for Cervia, Italy, to compete in the Cervia 2026 tournament, according to the Vietnam Sports Administration’s Decision No. 1291/QD-TDTTVN issued on August 27, 2026. The 83-person delegation includes administrative staff, referees, coaches, and 40 athletes selected based on their performance in domestic and international competitions.
Tournament Scale and International Participation
The central event of the program is the 2026 Vietnam-Italy Traditional Martial Arts World Championship and Junior Championship, which draws more than 500 coaches and athletes across multiple age brackets to contest 378 forms and combat events. The competition is jointly organized by the World Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Federation (WFVV), the Wushu Kung Fu and Vietnam-Italy Martial Arts Federation (FIWuK), with backing from the Emilia-Romagna region and the city of Cervia. Approximately 600 delegates, executives, judges, coaches, and athletes representing about 45 countries are taking part in the wider program activities.
Age Categories and Competition Format
The tournament features a multi-age competitive structure running from youth divisions up to athletes aged 41 to 60. Competition formats include combat, forms, and practical drills designed to display the varied characteristics of Vietnamese traditional martial arts. For competitors aged 18 to 40, men’s and women’s combat events are divided by weight class into H1 format, which excludes helmets and protective gear, and H2 format, which requires helmets, protective equipment, and elbow pads. Athletes under 17 compete in group performances and combat events, while participants aged 41 to 60 take part in selected forms and combat.
WFVV Congress and Professional Exchanges
Alongside the medal events, the program hosts the 2nd WFVV Congress for the 2026–2031 term, alongside training courses, international referee and rank promotion examinations, grading assessments, seminars, and cultural exchange activities. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, president of the Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Federation, serves as the head of the Vietnamese delegation. Organizers intend for these concurrent events to offer coaches, judges, and athletes an environment to share professional expertise, evaluate techniques, and expand international networks.
