Vietnamese Diaspora Unites: Overseas Communities Rally Behind Yagi Victims in Time of Need
Overseas Vietnamese organizations and communities continue to raise funds to support people in the North who are suffering damage from Typhoon Yagi.
In China, On the morning of September 13, the Vietnamese Embassy in China held a fundraising ceremony to support people affected by storm No. 3 with the participation of all officials and staff of the Embassy, representative agencies, Vietnamese press agencies in Beijing and representatives of the Vietnamese community in China.

In particular, before the Embassy held the launching ceremony, upon hearing that some northern provinces had suffered heavy losses due to the impact of storms and floods, a few days ago, overseas Vietnamese and representatives of Vietnamese students studying in China sent gifts to the Embassy, with the hope of contributing a small amount of affection, supporting people in the country to soon overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
In Malaysiathe fundraising launch ceremony was held on September 12. All officials and employees of the Embassy and representative agencies of Vietnam in Malaysia contributed at least one day’s salary, with a total amount of 5,790 ringgit (more than 1,300 USD). The fundraising activity will last until September 21.
In PretoriaThe Vietnamese Embassy in South Africa also organized a fundraising event to support and help our compatriots overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi. All officials, employees as well as families working at the Embassy and other representative agencies also unanimously donated at least one day’s salary each. The Vietnamese Embassy in South Africa called on the Vietnamese community in South Africa, depending on their conditions and capabilities, to donate to support our compatriots in the country.
In Czech Republicthe Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe, the Vietnamese Association in the Czech Republic and other Vietnamese associations in Europe have launched a fundraising campaign to provide financial support to our compatriots in their homeland. As of 9:00 p.m. on September 12 (local time), Vietnamese associations in the Czech Republic have donated more than 1.3 million kronor (about 57,000 USD). The fundraising program will continue in the coming days.
On this occasion, Vietnamese Associations in Hungary, Romania and Poland are also launching support programs for people in localities heavily affected by Typhoon Yagi.

In AlgeriaThe Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria launched a call for donations to share the difficulties and losses with the Vietnamese people in localities that are suffering heavily from natural disasters. The entire amount of money raised at the launching ceremony (about 740 USD) will be quickly transferred to promptly share the difficulties with the people. The donations will continue to be made in the coming days.
In GermanyThe Vietnamese Embassy in Germany has mobilized all staff and employees of the Embassy and those working in the Embassy to donate 3 days’ salary to support flood victims. The total amount raised is 3,330 euros. The Vietnamese Women’s Union in Germany has raised an initial amount of 10,000 euros. The Golden Lotus Group, one of the largest charities in Berlin, raised 8,000 euros in just 1 day of appeal. In addition, other associations and clubs of the Vietnamese community in Germany have also actively participated in support. The Vietnamese Union in Germany will organize a large donation at Dong Xuan Trade Center on September 15.
Previously, in ThailandOn the afternoon of September 11, 2024, the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand held a fundraising ceremony to support people affected by storm No. 3. The fundraising ceremony received positive responses from many officials and employees of the Embassy, neighboring agencies and families. The donated money will soon be sent back to the country to promptly deliver to people in the affected areas.
Vietnamese Community in Cyprusa small island nation in the Mediterranean, is launching a fundraising campaign to support people severely affected by Typhoon Yagi and the flooding that is happening in their homeland. The island nation of Cyprus has less than 5,000 Vietnamese people living here, of which a few are international students and Vietnamese brides, while the majority are people working as export laborers.
Following the situation of the storm and post-storm flooding, Ms. Pham Huong Giang, Vice President of the Vietnamese Community in Cyprus, shared: “We live on the island of Cyprus and are constantly following the developments of the storm and flood. It is heartbreaking and heartbreaking to see images of floods taking away the property and lives of many people. Seeing the scenes of soldiers, police and everyone working together to fight the floods, and seeing all our compatriots from all over the country working together to save the isolated people from hunger and disaster, we feel very moved.”

The leadership of the Vietnamese community in Cyprus has urgently called on Vietnamese brothers and sisters living, working and studying on the island of Cyprus to turn towards the Fatherland with practical actions.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Manh, Chairman of the Vietnamese Community in Cyprus, said: “Fortunately, there are communication channels of the Government and the State through the press, Facebook, YouTube… we have news and images updated regularly. And from that information, we immediately decided to launch a program to mobilize our brothers and sisters in the Republic of Cyprus to support at least 1 working day each. At the end of September, at the latest, early October, we will summarize the support and send it to the organization, the account of the Vietnamese government, to contribute a small part to support our people who are affected.”
Immediately after the community sent out the call, brothers and sisters shared widely and immediately contributed according to the areas where they lived, from the big cities of Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca, Paphos, Famagusta to the small towns of Paralimni, Agia Naba, Trodoss… Some people had little, some had much, but all wanted to be able to contribute a small part of their affection to the people.
