Vijay Sethupathi Confirms Rajinikanth Cameo in Jailer 2

Vijay Sethupathi has confirmed that he will appear in a cameo role in the highly anticipated Tamil action-comedy film Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The announcement comes as excitement builds for Rajinikanth’s return in the sequel to the 2023 box office hit Jailer. The actor explained that his participation in Jailer 2 is an exception to his usual choices.

Sethupathi, who had earlier decided not to take up cameo or villainous roles, expressed that he made this exception due to his admiration for Rajinikanth.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Sethupathi said, “I have done a cameo in Jailer 2 because I love Rajinikanth sir. To be with him, I get to learn a lot. The superstars survived in this industry for so many decades. There is so much to learn.”

Reflecting on his career choices, Sethupathi said, “Now I’m doing villain for the script only, which excites me,” stressing that he would only take on antagonist roles if the script offers something unique and compelling. He added that most villain roles offered to him are standard antagonists designed to elevate the hero, which does not appeal to him.

Jailer 2 is set to feature an ensemble cast, including Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, S. J. Suryah, Ramya Krishnan, and Yogi Babu. The film will also include special appearances by actors such as Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Vinayakan.

The film’s director, Nelson Dilipkumar, returns to helm the sequel after the commercial success of the original Jailer. Rajinikanth reprises his lead role, promising continuity for fans of the franchise. Audience expectations remain high as the release date approaches.

Jailer 2 is currently slated for a theatrical release on June 12, 2026. With the confirmation of Sethupathi’s cameo and a star-studded lineup, the film has already generated significant attention in the Tamil film industry and among cinema enthusiasts across the country.
