Denis Villeneuve to Direct Next James Bond Film

The next chapter in the James Bond saga is underway with Denis Villeneuve, the director known for “Dune,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and “Arrival,” set to direct the next film. Amazon MGM Studios announced the news Wednesday.
Villeneuve will also serve as executive producer alongside Tanya Lapointe. Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce for Amazon MGM, taking over from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
The search for the next actor to portray 007 is still ongoing.
“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007,” Villeneuve said.”I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.”
Mike Hopkins,head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios,said Villeneuve is a “cinematic master” whose filmography speaks for itself. He added that James Bond is in the hands of one of today’s greatest filmmakers.
Pascal and Heyman said Villeneuve has loved James Bond movies as he was a child and that directing one has always been his dream.
The next question is when production will begin on the 26th Bond film. Villeneuve is expected to work on a third “Dune” film, with reports suggesting it could begin shooting this summer and aim for a December 2026 release. though, nothing has been formally announced. There are reports that Robert Pattinson is being considered for a villain role in “Dune: Messiah.”
