Video Game Pioneer Vince Zampella Dies in California Crash
Vince Zampella, a highly influential figure in the video game industry, died in a single-vehicle collision on angeles Crest Highway in Los Angeles on Sunday, December 21, 2024, at 12:45 PM Pacific Time. He was 55 years old.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s preliminary report, the vehicle, a 2026 Ferrari 296 GTS, left the roadway and impacted a concrete barrier. Angeles Crest Highway, known for its scenic views within the San Gabriel Mountains, is a popular route for recreational drives.
The crash resulted in two fatalities. One occupant was ejected from the vehicle, and the other was trapped inside as the car caught fire. Both individuals died; one at the scene and the other after transport to a hospital. Authorities have not yet publicly identified who was driving or who was the passenger at the time of the incident.

Zampella’s career began with roles at SegaSoft and Panasonic before he gained prominence as the lead designer of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, released in 2002. This World War II first-person shooter was critically acclaimed and is considered a landmark title in the genre.

The studio quickly became a dominant force in the gaming world, particularly known for its work on the Call of Duty franchise.
