Vinod Tawde Takes Legal Action Against Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Cash-for-Vote’ Claims

Vinod Tawde Takes Legal Action Against Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Cash-for-Vote’ Claims

November 22, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

Legal Notice Sent to Rahul Gandhi and Congress Leaders

BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde has issued a legal notice to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Supriya Shrinate over allegations related to “cash-for-vote.” Tawde denied these allegations, stating they are false and intended to defame him and the BJP.

Tawde expressed that he feels “seriously hurt” by the accusations. He claims Congress leaders misled the media and the public by stating he was caught with Rs 5 crore while trying to influence voters. Tawde demands a public apology from the Congress leaders or he will pursue legal action for defamation, seeking Rs 100 crore in damages.

He emphasized his integrity, stating his 40-year political career has been devoid of wrongdoing. Tawde questioned the motives behind the allegations, suggesting they aim to tarnish his reputation.

In response, Anand Dubey from Shiv Sena (UBT) criticized Tawde, arguing that Congress leaders merely expressed their opinions based on accusations from others. Dubey pointed out that money was reportedly recovered from individuals affiliated with the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi.

The controversy, arising just before the Maharashtra Assembly elections on November 19, has led to further comments from various political figures. Rahul Gandhi questioned the source of the alleged Rs 5 crore, while Uddhav Thackeray labeled the situation as BJP’s “note jihad.” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the actions of the BJP, implying that they rely on financial and muscle power to secure votes.

Tawde rebutted these claims, citing evidence from CCTV and Election Commission documentation from a recent meeting with party workers. He firmly maintains that he has never engaged in such practices throughout his political career.
