The confrontation, captured on both cellphone and dashcam video, began around 3 p.m. Molina, a licensed professional counselor, had visited law offices near Columbia Pike to distribute business cards. While there, she observed ICE agents appearing to arrest two men.
Molina rolled down her window to tell the agents she believed their actions were wrong, then drove off to continue her work. The situation escalated shortly afterward when she needed to return to one of the offices. Making a U-turn brought her back into the path of the agents, who quickly blocked her vehicle.
Guns Drawn and Accusations Flly on Camera
Cellphone footage shows an agent yelling at Molina, accusing her of nearly running over personnel. Molina can be heard responding on video that she did not nearly strike anyone.
Video provided to FOX 5 appears to show an ICE agent drawing a firearm and pointing it toward Molina as she remained seated inside her car. Molina disputed the accusations of dangerous driving, noting to FOX 5 that she was never asked to exit her vehicle, was not arrested, and was ultimately permitted to leave after mentioning her dashcam footage.
Department of Homeland Security Defends the Stop
A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson offered a different account of the event in a statement provided to FOX 5. The agency claimed that an anti-ICE agitator drove in circles around officers and attempted to harm them by weaponizing her vehicle.
Furthermore, the agency stated that officers conducted a vehicle stop out of fear for their safety and noted that Molina could face criminal prosecution.
Civil Rights Advocates Condemn Enforcement Tactics
The encounter drew swift condemnation from civil rights advocates amid heightened scrutiny of immigration enforcement operations across Northern Virginia.
ACLU-VA Policy Director Chris Kaiser criticized the enforcement action in a statement to FOX 5, describing the footage of an armed agent pointing a gun at a parked resident as another example of aggressive tactics terrorizing local communities.
