Virat Kohli Rules Out T20 International Comeback at 2028 Olympics
Updated may 31, 2025
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has quashed speculation about a potential return to T20 international cricket for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Cricket is set to make its Olympic comeback at the LA Games, marking its first appearance since 1900. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) plans a T20 tournament, but qualification details remain unconfirmed.
despite organizers’ hopes that cricket’s inclusion would boost India’s Olympic engagement, Kohli, 36, stated firmly that he would not be tempted out of retirement. He retired from T20 duty after India’s 2024 World Cup victory but continues to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli made the proclamation at a sports summit associated with his IPL team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
While acknowledging the Olympics as a “grate opportunity” for indian cricketers, Kohli humorously added that he might consider a one-off appearance if India were competing for a gold medal. He played 125 T20s for India, amassing 4,188 runs with an average of 48.69.
What’s next
The IOC is expected to release further details regarding the qualification process for the T20 cricket tournament at the Los Angeles Olympics. Cricket fans in India will continue to watch Kohli in domestic T20 action.
